Sam Coe

Head Coach


Sam Coe is entering his third season as head coach of the Verona High School boys lacrosse team in 2024. He previously served as an assistant coach at Verona, and has also coached at Pearl River High School in New York, and for club programs including Evolution, BBL and Trilogy. 

Coach Coe played lacrosse at Cornell University, where he won an Ivy League championship, and graduated in 2007. He also holds a law degree from Brooklyn Law School. A native of Annapolis, MD, he attended McDonogh School in Baltimore where he was a vice-captain and a Maryland Coach’s Association All-Star in lacrosse, and a captain of the football team.

Brian Wenzel

Assistant Coach


Brian Wenzel is entering his third season as assistant boys lacrosse coach in 2024. He is also an assistant coach for the Hasbrouck Heights football team, and a Social Studies teacher at VHS.

Coach Wenzel previously worked at the WWE and the NY Jets. He graduated from Penn State, and earned his teaching certification from NJ City University.

At Butler HS, Coach Wenzel excelled on the gridiron and wrestling mat, earning accolades including four state championships, captaincy, First-Team Northern Hills Conference, All-Morris County, All-North Jersey, District champion, and a Paul Robeson All-Star. 
 

Kyle Matthews

Assistant Coach


Kyle Matthews is entering his first season as assistant boy lacrosse coach in 2024. He currently coaches for Evolution Lacrosse and was previously an assistant coach at Morristown High School. 

Coach Matthews played lacrosse at Montclair State University where he was an All-American, First Team All-CSAC, Academic All-American, won a team-high 90 faceoffs his senior year including 14 wins in the CSAC Tournament Semifinals, and holds the single-season faceoff wins record and the recod for most wins in a single game. He attended Northern Burlington High School in Wrightstown, NJ where he was First Team All-Conference.
